First, you need to check through which channel your asylum application was submitted. Asylum applications are filed either with the immigration court or USCIS. Whether your application is submitted to the immigration court or USCIS, your work permit application is handled through USCIS.

If Your Case Is in Immigration Court:

• You can enter your A-number on the https://acis.eoir.justice.gov/en/ website to obtain information such as the date of your upcoming hearing, your judge, and other details.

• Your A-number is the number that starts with “A” and is written on the documents provided to you by the ICE officer.

• If you have a document titled “Notice To Appear” but your court record is not yet visibleon the website, you should continue to check the page weekly. The Notice To Appear a document that informs individuals that they will appear in court.

• If there is a scheduled hearing date and location information on the document, you can find the contact details of the immigration court listed on your Notice To Appear via the https://www.justice.gov/eoir/immigration-court-operational-status website.

If Your Case Is with USCIS:

• If you submitted your application to USCIS by mail, you can check the status of your application on the https://egov.uscis.gov/ website. For this, you will need the Receipt Number found on the document titled “Form I-797C, Notice of Action” provided to you after you submitted your application.

• If you submitted your application online through the USCIS website, you can log in to your registered account on https://my.uscis.gov/ to check the status of your case.

How Can I Check the Status of My Work Permit?

• You can check the status of your work permit application by entering the Receipt Number found on the Form I-797C, which was sent to your address after you applied, on the https://egov.uscis.gov/ website.

• USCIS now provides an estimated processing time for your work permit application. You can access this information by logging into your USCIS account and clicking on the “myProgress” tab.
